CLASSICAL EDUCATION

The School focuses on providing a Classical Education which concentrates on teaching critical thinking skills based upon a solid foundation of the written and spoken English language. The School aims to give pupils a stimulating but academically rigorous, comprehensive education from nursery onwards. Children will be reading, thinking, understanding and encouraged to be curious about learning.

Their Classical Education is language-focused (English enhanced by classical languages such as Latin and modern foreign language choices of French, Italian, Spanish, Greek and Mandarin Chinese). Language teachers at KS are native speakers.  Part of the modern foreign language curriculum includes tuition in the foreign culture and its related music, art, costume, geography and cuisine which often involves celebration of national holidays, trips to exhibitions or even excursions to the relevant country for older pupils.

The well-rounded curriculum is enhanced with Sport, Music, Drama, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Art.  The educational offering includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum but also a range of extra curricular activities to enrich the experience of each child. All classes are mixed from Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to Year 8.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The School believes that physical education experienced in a safe and supportive environment is a vital contribution to a child's education. Specific emphasis is on fun, social skills and making PE enjoyable for every child, regardless of ability. The intention is to create the feeling that sport is for everyone. It helps develop communication, teamwork, problem solving, thinking skills and discipline.

Knightsbridge School has a strong physical education programme where children participate in exercise activity(ies) every day:

Soccer, netball, rugby, hockey, tennis, squash, golf, rounders, cricket and athletics - Seasonal selection of each sport twice a week for pupils aged 4 upwards;

Nursery pupils also take some form of exercise (dancing, gym games, walking, park play) every day of the week.

Matches are organised with other schools from age 7 upwards in most team sports. The school uses excellent local facilities for outdoor sports (Burton's Court, St. Luke's Playground, Hyde or Battersea Parks) or swimming (Queen Mother's Sports Centre) and benefits from a well-equipped gym and multi purpose hall on site.

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS (SEN)/ GIFTED AND TALENTED

Knightsbridge School recognises the significance of each child's specific learning  strengths and weaknesses and aims to identify/ support those areas which require extra help or can be accelerated further than their year group.  We believe that if a child is to achieve his or her full potential, they need to feel confident, valued and motivated. To promote this we aim to nurture all aspects of each child's learning (academic, social, moral, physical and emotional). We also want to ensure that parents are able to play their part in supporting their child's education and that the children have a say in the process.

Children with Statement of Special Educational Needs

If a child has a statement of special educational needs, the requirements of the statement will be met by the school.  Extra support will need to be paid for.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Their needs will be met in line with our policy to support individual needs.

Other policies are available, should parents wish to see them including an overview of academic performance. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask the School Office.
